Made in Meadow Well

Made in Meadow Well was the result of several months of dedicated work led by The Meadows, Phoenix Detached Youth Project, The Bay Foodbank and Cedarwood.

The event brought together a true cross section of the community to celebrate everything that makes Meadow Well, Chirton and Percy Main special. As part of North Shields, we are proud of our identity and heritage, and events like this help ensure our communities are not overlooked when the wider area is celebrated.

The photography on display featured work by Hazel Plater alongside a selection of images submitted to the photography competitions held at The Meadows. The winning photographs, taken by Andy Buchannen in the adult category and Mia from Norham School in the young person’s category, were showcased at the event. Both winners received a high quality 5k Digital SLR camera as their prize.

Around 80 people attended the event

The photographs were presented on large Foamex boards accompanied by information about the people featured in the images. Alongside the exhibition, we also screened Made in Meadow Well, an animation created by the Phoenix Detached Youth Project, as well as a short film by The Bay Foodbank that followed the journey of a single piece of donated food.

The North Shields buffet

Around eighty people attended the event, representing a wide and vibrant mix of the community. Local residents stood alongside councillors, footballers and musicians, all sharing the space and the experience. To give everyone a true taste of North Shields, we prepared a traditional buffet that included kippers in buns, pease pudding and pan haggerty.

Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. A comments book was made available throughout the day, offering visitors the chance to share their thoughts and helping us capture the spirit and atmosphere of a very successful event.
