Throughout June, North Tyneside Steam Railway is celebrating North Shields 800 with an exhibition, talks by guest speakers and now a visiting locomotive!

NXS800 is a new iteration of an experimental symphony written by North Shields born music producer Geoff Kirkwood, aka Man Power, and noted musician and orchestral arranger Fiona Brice. The piece features the North Shields Temporary Philharmonic Orchestra, an ensemble of global players formed specifically for this event.

Elevation, a local arts charity and official North Shields 800 project has released its call for artists to deliver a large-scale mural over the summer.

Historic England has announced funding for two community-focused cultural projects as part of the North Shields 800th anniversary celebrations.

North Shields 800 will take over the Linskill Centre on 28 June for a community day with talks, live music, displays, a community marketplace and craft beers.

A North Shields 800 Celebration event will bring the town’s community together for a day-long party with a festival atmosphere.
